Burst pipe? A vetted Edmonton plumber.

Do this first — shut off your main

Every minute a 1/2-inch line runs puts roughly another 20 litres into your house. Stopping the water matters more than who you call.

  1. Find the main shut-off valve. In most Edmonton homes it is in the basement on the front wall, near the water meter — often beside the furnace.
  2. Turn the valve clockwise until it stops. A lever-style valve turns a quarter turn; an older round handle may take several full turns.
  3. Open the lowest cold tap in the house to drain the standing pressure out of the pipes.
  4. Kill power to any circuit near standing water at the breaker panel — but only if the panel itself is dry and you can reach it without standing in water.
  5. Take a photo of the leak. It tells the crew what to bring.
Do not keep reading if you smell gas or see sparking. Get everyone out, call 911, and call ATCO Gas at 1-800-511-3447 from outside. We never dispatch a contractor to a gas or fire call.

Why pipes burst in Edmonton specifically

Our freeze-thaw swings are brutal: a −30 °C night followed by a daytime thaw is exactly the cycle that splits a line. The usual suspects are uninsulated pipes in exterior walls, crawl spaces, and unheated garages, plus outdoor hose bibs that were never shut off and drained in the fall.

A pipe that froze and has not burst yet is still an emergency — most splits show up during the thaw, not the freeze.

What happens when you tap the button

  1. Six tappable questions. Or hit the microphone and just say what happened, or send up to three photos.
  2. We match the trade and your postal zone to the one vetted crew on call for it.
  3. They get your answers, your photos, and your voice note before they call — so the truck arrives with the right parts.
  4. You get a text with the company name and a reference number. If nobody confirms in 10 minutes, a human here gets paged.

What it costs

AIMergency does not charge homeowners. You pay the contractor directly at their own rates — ask for the call-out fee and the hourly rate when they phone you, and get it confirmed before work starts. Most Edmonton emergency plumbing call-outs land in the $150–$350 range before parts, with higher after-hours rates overnight and on holidays.

Also flooded?

If water has already soaked drywall, carpet, or subfloor you need extraction and drying as well as the pipe repair. Start a water damage call instead and we will route you to a restoration crew.
